What We Believe
Our Goal at Traverse Bay
To be passionate followers of Jesus Christ working together for the transformation of the world.
Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.
As United Methodists, we are Christians. We share affirmations in common with all Christian communities. Beyond that, our founder John Wesley placed a special emphasis on Christian living.
We think putting faith and love into action – doing what Jesus would have us do – is what ultimately transforms our minds and hearts to be more like Christ.
Wesley also gave us a rich understanding of God’s unconditional love. There’s even a special grace available to those of us who don’t believe yet.Read more about our rich theological traditions.
Through the broader church, we have opportunities to learn and grow in our spiritual journey. We also find ways to serve and to support the missions of our church throughout the world.
When disaster struck in Haiti in the earthquake of 2010, for example, our broader church’s relief agency had already been on the ground.
Traverse Bay community members have been traveling to Haiti on mission for more than decade. We have friends there. At a time when no planes were coming or going, and communication was scarce, we could help immediately through the denomination’s relief efforts. It was a great relief to our congregation, as we mourned with our Haitian friends.Find updates on United Methodist Haiti relief here.
The red flame is a symbol of Spirit. It is the symbol of the day of Pentecost, after Easter, when the Holy Spirit comes to unify the fellowship of believers on Earth. It is a symbol of divine blessing and power. Our emblem also reminds us of a transforming moment in the life of Methodism’s founder, John Wesley, when he sensed God’s presence and felt his heart “strangely warmed.”
How We Worship
Please check our Facebook page for any changes to this week’s schedule.

How We Play
Church is not all serious, all the time. We want to learn and grow. We want to worship and serve. But we also just like to spend time together. We make time to eat together and play together.
Our members love to throw parties for the whole community! Check out our:
- Hanging of the Greens & Christmas Crafts
- Chili-Dessert Cook Off
- New Life Egg Hunt
- Ice Cream Social
We play cards together, play ball together. There’s a weekly men’s breakfast and a Tuesday morning Craft group. There are all sorts of activities going on throughout the year, and you are always welcome to join!
Being with, and getting to know other people in our church community is not just fun. It can also be refreshing and healing. Come and be a part of our family!Find upcoming events here
